Colfax Public Access on School Section Lake

School Section Lake is a small inland lake of 182 acres with a maximum depth of 26 feet. The lake is ringed with private cottages. Several marshy areas are nearby. A public swimming beach and two boat launch areas are located on the eastern shore.



Boat Launch- there are two access sites, one north and one south of the public beach, but separate from them. The larger one with more parking is to the north, parking for 3-4 vehicles with trailers. No space for trailer parking at the south access. No docks.


Fishing- bluegill and largemouth bass (list from lake-link.com)

Swimming- public beach with sand and sandy bottom. Water is not tested, and there is no lifeguard. Swim at you own risk.

Picnicking- there are two picnic tables at the beach area.

Rest Rooms- none
Potable Water- none

Access- dirt access directly off 186th Avenue. Plenty of parking at swimming beach.
Restrictions- no high speed boating or towing (skiing, kiting, etc) between 7:30pm and 11 am daylight time or 6:30 pm and 10 am standard time, no camping, no swimming at boat launch sites, no loud music, no glass containers, no alcohol, no pets on beach. no fires.
Seasonality- lake freezes in winter.
Ecosystem- small inland lake with developed margin
Other points of interest- small town services in Walkerville, three miles to the south

From US 31 take the south Pentwater ext at Monroe Road. Go east 7 miles to 126th Ave, and turn north. Go one mile and turn east on Madison. Go 7.5 miles to 186th Ave and turn north along the east side of School Section Lake. It is 0.5 mile to the beach.

Or, from M-37, turn west on 13-Mile Road (11 miles south of Baldwin Court House). Go 13 miles to 176th Ave and turn north. Go 2 miles to Madison and turn east. Go 1.5 mile to 86th Ave and turn north along the east side of School Section Lake. It is 0.5 mile to the beach.
